How To Make Single a Crochet Stitch (Sc and Sc2tog)

This tutorial will show you how to create single crochet using standard American terms.  A single crochet stitch in the US is in called the UK double crochet (dc) stitch. Before you start always check if the pattern is using UK or US crochet terms. 🙂

Single Crochet (sc)

1. Insert the hook from front to back into the loop.
2. Wrap the yarn from back to front over the hook (we call this part yarn over – yo).
3. Pull the hook with the wrapped yarn through the stitch. You have two loops on your hook.
4. Yarn over again.
5. Draw the hook with the wrapped yarn through both loops on the hook.
6. Your single crochet is now complete.

Single crochet two together (sc2tog)

1. Insert the hook from front to back into the loop.
2. Yarn over.
3. Draw the yarn through the stitch. You should have 2 loops on your hook.
4. Insert the hook into the next stitch.
5. Yarn over.
6. Draw the yarn through the stitch. You should have 3 loops on your hook.
7. Yarn over.
8. Draw the yarn through all 3 loops on your hook.
9. Your single crochet two together stitch is now complete.
