This tutorial will show you how to create single crochet using standard American terms. A single crochet stitch in the US is in called the UK double crochet (dc) stitch. Before you start always check if the pattern is using UK or US crochet terms. 🙂
Single Crochet (sc)
- Insert the hook from front to back into the loop.
- Wrap the yarn from back to front over the hook (we call this part yarn over – yo).
- Pull the hook with the wrapped yarn through the stitch. You have two loops on your hook.
- Yarn over again.
- Draw the hook with the wrapped yarn through both loops on the hook.
- Your single crochet is now complete.
Single crochet two together (sc2tog)
- Insert the hook from front to back into the loop.
- Yarn over.
- Draw the yarn through the stitch. You should have 2 loops on your hook.
- Insert the hook into the next stitch.
- Yarn over.
- Draw the yarn through the stitch. You should have 3 loops on your hook.
- Yarn over.
- Draw the yarn through all 3 loops on your hook.
- Your single crochet two together stitch is now complete.
