INSTRUCTIONS

Crochet Baby Romper Pattern – Calming Green

The pattern for crochet baby romper is written a few simple steps:

  • front side
  • strap 1
  • back side
  • strap 2
  • sleeves
  • sewing
  • neck area

Please, read the instructions carefully. Don’t skip any parts of the pattern, and make sure you do not accidentally lose or add additional stitches to the pattern. That might affect the final look of your design.

The main panel is made in two pieces. Strap 2 is added once the front, strap 1, and backside are finished.

Take the Worsted weight yarn in MC (mint) and 4.5 mm crochet hook and create a foundation chain made of 34 chains. Add 1 chain as turning ch.

Work in rows. At the end of each row, create a turning ch (ch 1) and turn your work.

FRONT

Start in the 2nd chain from the hook.

Row 1 (MC): Hdc 34 sts. = 34 sts.

From this row on, start each row in the very first st of the row.

Row 2 (CC): Hdc 34 sts. = 34 sts.

Repeat rows 1 and 2 a couple of more times:

0 – 6 months – repeat 10 more times.

Row 3 (MC): Hdc 34 sts. = 34 sts.

Repeat row 3 a couple of more times:

0 – 6 months – repeat 5 more times.

STRAP 1

Do not break the yarn. Continue with strap 1.

Take two stitch markers and place them both 10 sts in. (Photo 1)

Row 1 (MC): Hdc 8. Hdc2tog. = 9 sts.

Row 2 (MC): Hdc2tog. Hdc 7. = 8 sts.

Row 3 (MC): Hdc 6. Hdc2tog. = 7 sts.

Row 4 and 5 (MC): Hdc 7. = 7 sts.

After the last row on the strap start working on a long chain which will serve us as a foundation chain for the back side of the sweater.

Ch 27. Add the turning chain (ch 1).

BACK

Row 1 (MC): Hdc 34 sts. = 34 sts.

Repeat row 1 a couple of more times:

0 – 6 months – repeat 10 more times.

Row 2 (CC): Hdc 33 sts. = 34 sts.

Row 3 (MC): Hdc 34 sts. = 34sts.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 a couple of more times:

0 – 6 months – repeat 10 more times.

Cut the yarn and fasten off.

STRAP 2

Strap 2 is made of two pieces. Front and back.

FRONT

Attach the yarn in the st marker that marks 10th sts in with ch 1. This ch 1 represents a decrease in the pattern. We will skip it in the next row.

Row 1 (MC): Hdc 9. = 9 sts.

Row 2 (MC): Hdc 7. Hdc2tog. = 8 sts.

Row 3 (MC): Hdc2tog. Hdc 6. = 7 sts.

Row 4 (MC): Hdc 2. Ch 1. Skip 1. Hdc 2. Ch 1. Skip 1. Hdc 1. = 7 sts.

Row 5 (MC): Sc. = 7 sts.

Cut the yarn and fasten off.

BACK

Count 7 sts in on the back side of the sweater.

Attach the yarn with ch 1.

Row 1 and 2 (MC): Hdc 7. = 7 sts.

Cut the yarn and fasten off.

BUTTONS

Attach two buttons to the back strap corresponding to the buttonholes.

Make sure the buttons are securely attached and check on them regularly. In case they get loose over time.

SLEEVES

The pattern for the left and the right sleeve is the same. Attaching the right sleeve might be more challenging due to the opening and crocheting through two layers of the fabric at the same time.

Take the Worsted weight yarn in MC (mint) and 4.5 mm crochet hook.

Attach the yarn in the last row made with CC on the front side/ back side of the sweater.

Work in rows. At the end of each row, create a turning ch (ch 1) and turn your work.

Row 1: Hdc2tog. (You can also use the ch 1 and hdc 1 instead. Ch 1 counts as a decrease.) Work 30 hdc evenly towards the next end of the sweater. Hdc2tog. Finish the row in the first row made with the CC on the back side/ front side of the sweater. = 32 sts.

Row 2: Hdc2tog. Hdc 28. Hdc2tog. = 30 sts.

Row 3 and 4: Hdc 30 sts. = 30 sts.

Row 5: Hdc2tog. Hdc 26. Hdc2tog. = 28 sts.

Row 6: Hdc2tog. Hdc 24. Hdc2tog. = 26 sts.

Row 7 and 8: Hdc 26 sts. = 26 sts.

Row 9: Hdc2tog. Hdc 22. Hdc2tog. = 24 sts.

Row 10: Hdc2tog. Hdc 20. Hdc2tog. = 22 sts.

Row 11 and 12: Hdc 22 sts. = 22 sts.

Row 13: Hdc2tog. Hdc 18. Hdc2tog. = 20 sts.

Cut the yarn and fasten off.

Hide the yarn tails between the sts.

Repeat the steps for the second sleeve.

SEWING

Take a small amount of yarn and sew together the front and the back side of the sweater and the sleeves.

You will have to do that twice. For the left and for the right side of the sweater.

Cut the yarn, fasten off and hide the yarn tails between the sts.

NECK

Take a small amount of yarn in MC and a 4.5 mm crochet hook. Start on one end of the collar (front or back) and crochet sc sts evenly around the neck area all the way to the other end.

Do not join!

Cut the yarn and fasten off. Hide the yarn tail between the sts.
