About The Pattern

This sweet little baby shoe design has a very special place in my heart. It was originally created almost a decade ago and first shared under the name Green Delight, alongside another matching pattern (which I’m also updating soon – stay tuned!). 🌿

Since then, I’ve made a few updates to bring it closer to the style I use today. The biggest change? I replaced the original sole with my updated CP sole, the one I now use for all of my designs. It gives the shoes a better shape and fit — and I think you’re going to love it!

I know the sandal season is long gone here where I live — the cold days are definitely creeping in! ❄️ But I just couldn’t wait another year to share this refreshed version with you. And if you’re expecting a little one next spring, this might be just the perfect project to start early!

The pattern is made with soft cotton yarn in fun, vibrant colors, making it playful and easy to wear. Plus, it’s a super quick make — you can finish the pair in just one evening!

You can find the free video tutorial on my YouTube channel, the smallest size pattern here on my blog, and the PDF pattern with all sizes on Ravelry, Etsy, and Patreon.

Crochet Baby Sandals Pattern – Green Delight

Please, read the instructions carefully. Don’t skip any parts of the pattern, and make sure you do not accidentally lose or add additional stitches to the pattern. That might affect the final look of your design.

These cute little baby shoes are worked from the sole up. You’ll start by crocheting the sole, then build the upper part, and finally add the cheerful flower on top to bring it all together. 🌼

There’s no left or right shoe here, both shoes are made exactly the same, which makes things a bit easier, especially if you’re just starting out.

And if you’re a complete beginner, don’t worry! You can absolutely give this a try. The most challenging part when you’re learning how to crochet is keeping an even tension (gauge). That’s totally normal! You might need to make more than just two shoes to find a matching pair, and that’s okay. Practice is part of the process, and every extra stitch helps you grow. 💛

Want to make a cute little set? You can pair these baby shoes with my Blueberry Dance crochet headband and even reuse the flower from this tutorial to make them match perfectly!

Instructions

Sole

Take your beige yarn and a 3.5 mm crochet hook. Create a foundation chain of 10 [13].

Round 1: Start in the 2nd chain from the hook. Make 2 hdc into the same stitch. Hdc in the next 7 [10] stitches. Make 6 hdc into the last chain. Now continue on the opposite side of the foundation chain. Hdc in the next 7 [10] stitches. Make 2 hdc into the last stitch. Join with a slip stitch. = 24 [30] sts

Round 2: Ch 1. Start in the same stitch. 2 hdc in each of the next 2 stitches. Hdc in the next 7 [10] stitches. 2 hdc in each of the next 6 stitches. Hdc in the next 7 [10] stitches. 2 hdc in each of the last 2 stitches. Join with a slip stitch. = 34 [40]sts

Round 3: Ch 1. (2 hdc in the same stitch, 1 hdc in the next stitch) repeat 2 times. Hdc in the next 7 [10] stitches. (2 hdc in the same stitch, 1 hdc in the next stitch) repeat 6 times. Hdc in the next 7 [10] stitches. (2 hdc in the same stitch, 1 hdc in the next stitch) repeat 2 times. Join with the slip stitch. = 44 [50] sts.

Create four identical soles.

Joining the two soles together

1. You should have 4 soles. You’ll join them two by two, so you’ll end up with 2 double soles for your sandals.

2 . Place two soles together, with the nicer (the one on the left!) sides facing out.

3. Attach your light green yarn where you ended the sole. This keeps your seam neat and in line.

4. Work 1 slip stitch evenly around the edge through both soles to join them together.

Work 44 [50] slip stitches total, plus 1 extra slip stitch into the slip stitch at the beginning to close the round.

Count this extra stitch as 1 additional stitch. = 45 [51] sts

5. Cut the yarn.

6. Gently weave the yarn tail under a few stitches to secure it.

7. Hide the yarn ends between the two soles so they stay invisible.

Tip: Take your time to keep your slip stitches neat and evenly spaced for a clean edge!

Upper Part

Take your beige yarn and a 3.5 mm crochet hook.

Place two stitch markers to mark 11 [13] stitches at the center front of the shoe. This will help shape the opening for the foot.

Position the shoe so the toes are pointing toward you. You will work into the side of the sole with the slip stitch back bumps (one loop) facing up.

Attach the yarn where you ended the sole, on the left side of the marked stitches, and work toward the heel, then around to the stitch right before the stitch marker on the other side.

Attach the yarn and work your first stitch in the same place.

From here on, you will work in rows. At the end of each row, ch 1 and turn your work.

Rows 1–3: Sc 34 [38]. = 34 [38] sts

Row 4: Sc 14 [15], sc2tog, sc 2, sc2tog, sc 14 [15]. = 32 [36] sts

Row 5: Sc 32 [36]. = 32 [36] sts

Row 6: Sc 13 [15], sc2tog, sc 2, sc2tog, sc 13 [15]. = 30 [34] sts

Row 7: Sc 30 [34]. = 30 [34] sts

Do not cut the yarn or fasten off.

You’ll continue with the next part, where you’ll learn how to join the upper part to shape your baby sandal.

Joining the top

Take the loop you currently have on your hook and carefully pull it down so it doesn’t unravel. Keep it safe!

Insert your hook into the very first stitch of the last row on the upper part, this is the stitch on the opposite end from where your loop is.

Grab the loop you set aside and pull it through that stitch on the opposite end.

Now, work 2 slip stitches up towards the opening of the sandal. This helps close the gap a little and shapes the opening nicely.

Cut the yarn and fasten off.

Flower

This is the final crochet part of your project!

Take your 3.5 mm crochet hook and use beige yarn (or any color you like for the flower center).

Create a magic ring.

Round 1: Work 10 sc into the magic ring. Join with a slip stitch. = 10 sts

Pull the yarn end on your magic ring to close the opening.

Cut the yarn and fasten off. But leave the long tail for sewing.

Change to yellow yarn (or another color of your choice for the petals).

Round 2: Attach the yarn in any sc stitch from Round 1. Repeat (Ch 3, skip 1 st, slip stitch) 5 times around. You’ll have 5 chain loops for the petals.

Round 3: Work into each chain loop. Attach the yarn with slip stitch into one of the slip sts from the round below. Repeat (Sc 1, hdc 1, dc 3, hdc 1, sc 1, slip stitch into the slip stitch from the round below) 5 times, one for each petal. Create the last slip stitch into the first slip stitch of this round to join the round.

Cut the yarn and fasten off.

Attaching the flower to the main part

Find the yarn tail you used for the center of the flower and use it to attach the flower to the main part.

Place the flower on the spot where you joined both ends of the upper part together, right at the toes. Use a yarn needle and a few strong stitches to sew the flower in place.

Make sure the flower is nicely secured and sits flat. Cut the yarn and fasten off.

Hide any extra yarn tails between the stitches for a neat finish.
