Granny Square Baby Romper by Croby Patterns

I am so excited to share with you my new tutorial for a crochet baby romper. I have been working on this bad boy for two weeks now, and I think it came out super cute. Believe it or not, this was my first attempt to make a granny square. I have been dreaming about this romper for a while now but never actually took enough time to crochet it and write it on a piece of paper.

The upper part of the romper can be a bit hard to understand. All you have to do is to work sets of double crochet stitches around the chains from the previous round.

One set on the sides and two sets into each corner. I know it does not make any sense now, but it will, very soon. I promise!

The main part is made of rounds, mostly rounds of double crochet stitches that are joined with a slip stitch. When you finish the main part you divide stitches almost in half. You leave two stitches on the front and two stitches on the back of the romper, right in the middle.

I marked them with four stitch markers so that I do not crochet into them by mistake. The last step of the romper is two straps made of chain and one round of single crochet stitches. Each attached to one corner on the upper part of the romper.

If you are having a hard time understanding any part of the pattern, please jump to the tutorial, especially the upper part of the romper, and transition to the main part.

I hope you will like the pattern. If you decide to make your own, share the photo using #crobypatterns on Instagram or Facebook. I always love to see your creations using Croby patterns. 🙂

Work 1 sc into the next 3 sts. Work dc2tog around the chain (both parts of the st!). Work 1 tr2tog to join the next two sts. Work 1 tr (One part into the dc from the previous round and 1 part around the ch.). Ch 40. Do not twist the ch. Join the ch on the opposite side of the granny square, in the corner with a tr2tog (the first part around the ch, the second part into the dc from the previous round). Join the round with a ss.

Round 7 – 12 (C1): Work 1 dc into the next 68 sts. Join the round with a ss. Cut the yarn and fasten off.

LEGS

Mark 2 stitches on the front and two stitches on the back of the romper, right in the middle of each side. These 4 stitches will stay undone.

Insert the hook into the stitch, right next to the marked one and start crocheting towards the next marker. Work in rounds and join each round with a ss. Do not turn after each round.

Round 1 (C1): Ch 1. Work 1 hdc into the next 32 sts. Ss.

Round 2 (C1): Ch 2. Work 1 dc into the next 32 sts. Ss. Cut the yarn, fasten off and hide the tail.

Repeat the steps for the second leg.

STRAPS

Take a small amount of yarn and ch 51. Work in rows. You will need two straps.

Row 1: Start in the 2nd ch from the hook. Work 1 sc into the next 50 sts. Fasten off. Leave long tail for sewing.

Attach the straps to the corners of the upper part of the romper.

And you are done! 🙂

I love your site and the patterns. I just became a grandma again and this time, I know how to crochet. What fun to look at all your adorable baby patterns. Mine don’t look as good as yours yet, but hopefully some day. In the mean time, I enjoyed making the sneaker baby boy booties.

Found a few problems. Row 7 of lower half. Should that be row 7 threw 16. Instead of stopping at row 12. And should they be dc not hdc? I made it as directed and it came out tealy realy short. Its still a very cute outfit. I just thought you might like to know.

Hi, Felicia! Thanks for letting me know! 🙂 You can repeat this row of dc sts as many times as you need to achieve the desired length. 🙂
