How to Make a Crochet Chain and Slip Knot

by Doroteja

Hello, my lovely crocheters!

It has been a while since I’ve posted my last Crochet Lesson post. Last time we were talking about all the little extra handy things you might need when crocheting. They are not the things that you need all the time, but they can be lifesavers that can make your crochet life much easier.

Today I will show you how to make a chain and a slip knot. Both are super easy to make and you will learn how to make them in no time.

The very first loop, when you start crocheting is a slip knot. There are so many ways how to do it. In the video below I will show you my way, how I do it. Don’t worry, most probably you have made them before. The slip knot is represented by the abbreviation sk.

All crochet projects begin with a chain, into which is worked the foundation row. Each little V shape or little heart of the chain is a chain stitch. The chain stitch is represented by the abbreviation ch. For example, ch 5 in the pattern indicates that you should make 5 chain stitches.
