Crochet baby Christmas Hat by Croby Patterns

PATTERN – Crochet baby Christmas Hat

Size – newborn.

You will need:

  • crochet hook: 4.5 mm
  • yarn needle
  • stitch markers
  • yarn:  in white and red color
  • pom pom maker
  • white thread
  • festive button (mine is in the shape of the Christmas tree)

Gauge: yarn: 18 sts and 14 rows in hdc measure 4 x 4 inch (10 x 10 cm).

Stitches:

  • ch – chain
  • ss – slip stitch
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • dc – double crochet
  • BLO – work in back loops only

All of my patterns are written in standard American terms.

RIBBING

Work in rows. Turn at the end of each row. Use red yarn.

Ch 6. Start in 2nd chain from the hook.

Row 1: hdc 5. Ch1. Turn.

Row 2 – 31: Work in BLO! Hdc 5. Ch 1. Turn.

Row 32: Work in BLO! Hdc 5. Leave longer tail for sewing.

Now sew the last and the first row together. Cut the yarn and fasten off.

HAT

Now join the yarn on the top of the ribbing as seen on the picture. use red yarn.

Work in rounds. Turn at the end of each round. Do not count the chain or ss stitch as a stitch at the beginning/end of the round.

Round 1: Work hdc 45. This is approximately 1 and a half stitch per row in the ribbing. Join the round with ss. Chi Turn.

Round 2 – 10: Hdc 45. Ss. Ch1. Turn.

Round 11: Hdc 45. Join the round with ss. Leave longer tail for sewing.

Now take the yarn needle and sew the hat on top as seen in the picture. Fasten off. Turn the hat. The side with the sewn stitches shod be on the inside.

POM POM

Take a pompom maker or cut two circles of a cardboard. Cut a small round hole in the middle of each circle. Lay them together and wrap the yarn white around it. Crochet baby Christmas Hat by Croby Patterns

Put the scissors in between the two circles of cardboard or of plastic pompom maker and cut the yarn.

Draw a long piece of thread between the two circles. Tie and knot it firmly around the yarn. Make two of them and attach them at the top of the hat. On the each corner one.

ACCESSORY

Take the white yarn and ch 4 (chain count as a stitch). Work 12 dc into the first chain. join the round with ss into the first stitch (chain!). Fasten off.

Now take the red yarn and ch 2. Start in the 2nd chain from the hook and hdc 9. Join the round with the first stitch in the round with ss. Fasten off.

Take the white thread and needle and start sewing. Attach the red circle on the top of the white one. Sew the button on the top of that and attach the accessory on one side of the hat as seen in the picture.

Tada! You are done 🙂

This is the size for a newborn. You can make a bigger size by using 5 mm or 5.5 mm crochet hook and thicker yarn.

This is so cute! This would be a great gift for my nephew! Last year, I got his older brother (7 years old) a knitted Beard Head with a mini beard because he wanted to look just like grandpa! I think something festive and homemade would be great for the kids this year 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
