Crochet Baby Booties – Orange Pumpkin

by Doroteja

Hello, my lovely crocheters!

This is my first post. I finally found enough courage to start a blog. It will be about crochet baby booties, baby toys, baby clothes… I am crocheting for a quite some time now and I have finally decided to share my work with you. For each project that I will post, I will make a pattern, actually a tutorial with pictures for almost each row, so it will be appropriate for beginners too. Some of the patterns will be free, some of them for sale on Ravelry or Etsy.

Today I will share with you my first project. I named it Orange Pumpkin. I know, I know it is not October and it is not Halloween anytime soon, but I can’t help it. It was a moment of inspiration.

This is a pattern for baby flats, they are more appropriate for girls than boys, but I promise I will create something for boys soon …

This pattern is written in American terms.

Here are a few pictures of my work.

PATTERN

Round 1:

Start in 2nd chain from the hook. Make 2 hdc into the same stitch. Hdc 8 (9, 11). Make 6 hdc into the last chain, now work on the opposite side of the chain. Hdc 8 (9, 11). Make 2 hdc into the last one. Do not join at the end of the round.

= 26 (28, 32) sts.

Round 2:

Make 2 sc into next 2. Sc 5 (6, 8). Hdc into next 3. Make 2 dc into next 6. Hdc 3. Sc into next 5 (6, 8). Now make 2 sc into last 2 stitches.

And the sole is done.

UPPER PART OF A SHOE:

If you want the shoe in more than one color now is the right time to change the color. In the next few steps I will use a purple yarn.

Note!
Make the chain and the first stitch into the same (first) stitch from the previous round. Chain in the beginning of the round and ss at the end of the round does NOT count as a stitch. Also be careful what is the last stitch from the previous round and what ss when you are finishing the round. I would recommend you to use a marker for this manner.

Here you will need a 3,5 mm hook.
Now comes the tricky part. Turn your sole. The nicer side should be facing down. Start in the middle of the heel and work in back loops only!

Round 1:

Work ch 1 and sc into the same stitch, sc 47 (49, 53), join the round with ss, then turn.

Round 2:

Work in both loops.

Ch 1, hdc into the next. Hdc into next 47 (49, 53) stitches. Join the round with ss. Turn.
= 48 (50,54) sts.

Round 3:

Chain 1. Sc into next. Sc2tog. Work sc into next 9 (10, 12). Make hdc into next 2. Repeat dc2tog 10 times. Now work hdc into next 2. Sc 9 (10, 12).
Sc2tog. Make sc into the last one. Join the round with ss. DO NOT turn.
= 36 (38, 42) sts.

Round 4:

Chain 1 and sc into the same base stitch. Sc2tog.
Sc into next 8 (9, 11). Hdc into next one. Repeat dc2tog 6 times. Hdc into the next. Sc 8 (9, 11). Sc 2tog. Sc. Join the round with ss. Ss does not count as a stitch. Do not turn.
= 28 (30, 34) sts.

Round 5:

Chain 1 and sc into the same stitch. Sc into next 27 (29, 33) stitches. Join with ss.
= 28 (30, 34) sts.

Round 6:

*You can change the color. Work ss 28 (30, 34). Fasten off
= 28 (30, 34) sts.

ADD A BOW!

You still crochet with 3,5 mm hook. Use beige yarn.

Chain 7. Start in the 2nd chain from the hook.

_DSC0978

Row 1: 1 sc in next 6 sts. Turn.

Row 2: Ch1. Work hdc2tog to join next two sts. Hdc into next 2. Work hdc2tog to join next two sts. Turn.

Row 3: Ch 1. Repeat hdc2tog two times. Turn.

Row 4: Ch 1. Work 2 hdc into the next 2 sts.

Row 5: Ch 1. Work 2hdc into the first stitch. Hdc into next 2 sts. Work 2 hdc into the last one.

Now take the orange yarn and make a few rounds around the middle part of the bow. Take the hook and pull the tails, each on the opposite side.

Attach the bow on the shoe.

This bow is a nice accessory, but make sure, that you attach it very well. Kids safety is very important.

Orange Pumpkin – Crochet Baby Flats/Botties

And you are done 🙂

Each pattern is made with a lot of love. Feel free to make as many products as you want, sell them (make a reasonable price, not too low), give them as a gift… make them in different colors. Have fun! But don’t forget I spent hours and hours making this pattern, so please do not copy this pattern and sell or post it as your own. Also, do not publish photos as your own. Rather make your own photos of your own work and post them. I believe they will be as good as mine, or even better :-).

With love, Doroteja
